Writing a Letter to Government Officials about the
Brookeville Bypass
-
Letters do not need to be long. Personal statements
about how the issue affects you are more effective.
-
A good opening
is to describe why you chose to live in Brookeville and what
you value about living here.
- Quiet, semi-rural neighborhood, green space and lots of
trees.
- A good quality of life in a family-oriented community.
- Unique history of Brookeville.
-
Comment on how development north of Brookeville
is affecting what you value about Brookeville.
- Traffic congestion during morning and evening rush hours.
- Frequent accidents resulting in home owners’ and
town property damage.
- Large Trucks passing through too small an intersection.
- Dangerous for pedestrians, especially school children.
-
Give a brief history and current status of the
Brookeville Bypass.
- More than thirty years ago the Brookeville Bypass appeared
in the Olney Master Plan.
- The SHA has twice studied a traffic light at Market Street
High Street intersection. Both studies have been rejected
as failing to resolve the traffic flow problem. The bypass
remains the only solution.
- In late 2002 the SHA Administrator selected Alternate 7
Modified as the desired Brookeville Bypass alignment.
- Development design approval is expected early in 2005.
The bypass is then ready for final design, funding and construction
- End with a summary statement.
- Ask that the bypass be placed in the top two road
projects for Montgomery County
- Ask for support in getting the
bypass funded
