Annual Town Holiday Party
You don’t want to miss this favorite annual town event! The party starts at 6:00 p.m. on December 14 at the Brookeville Academy. The town is providing babysitting for ages 2 and up! Please bring a favorite movie, game or puzzle with your child so we will have lots of activities to keep them busy. We hope this will allow the parents to relax and have fun! Each family should bring a dish to share. The town will provide drinks and wine. Bring your own beer.

Building Permits
The commissioners approved at its October meeting a revised building permit drafted by the Planning Commission. The Planning Commission also drafted an informational “Frequently Asked Questions” document about the Town permitting process. It provides a wealth of information on what you, as a resident of the town, need to do to apply for town and county permits. Both are available on our web site or by calling Susan Johnson at 301-924-5979.

Town Resident is New State Delegate

Congratulations to Brookeville’s own Karen Montgomery for her hard-fought victory in winning one of three Delegate seats for District 14 in the Maryland General Assembly! Karen has been very active in Town affairs in the past and has always been an effective advocate on Town issues. We look forward to her new role in Annapolis. While District 14 is a very wide-ranging and diverse district with many issues that will compete for her attention, Karen always has been among the strongest proponents of the Brookeville Bypass. We know she will be invaluable in working on our behalf to win State construction funds for building this crucial project as well as on other issues of importance to the Town.

Thank You to Nancy Dacek

Nancy Dacek has been a member of the Montgomery County Council who always found time to talk to us and support Town interests. She was a friend of the Brookeville Academy when we needed all the help we could get for construction funding. Nancy was there for us to ensure that the Bordly Drive extension to Georgia Avenue, a logical and master-planned transportation project that should do much to divert east-west traffic from Town, was not sidetracked by very vocal opposition. Nancy was also, of course, a strong supporter of the Brookeville Bypass. Our heartfelt and sincere thanks go to Council member Nancy Dacek and her always accessible and helpful staff. She will be a tough act to follow.

Civil War Trail Sign
Civil War buffs know that Confederate General Jeb Stuart rode through Brookeville with a sizable contingent during the Gettysburg campaign. That event and its related context will be the subject of a proposed detailed sign site to be located on the Brookeville Academy grounds. We have been advised that the State Office of Tourism Development will be working with the Town to establish the site, one of a number of such sites, in the near future.

Revised Brookeville Academy Rates & Policies
The commissioners reviewed and revised some of the current rates and policies for the rental of the academy for the upcoming year. We are working on a new brochure for the academy and will include it in the January newsletter with all price changes reflected.

Odds and Ends
There has been a host of “housekeeping” and general management matters that have been the subject of our attention recently. We have begun to work on a new Town home page and web site design that should be more attractive and easier
to navigate. Residents Chris Scanlon and Miche Booz are helping us with that project. The Brookeville Schoolhouse restoration is moving along with a new roof now expected to be erected in January. The windows are being restored and recreated where necessary and floor joists are being put in place. The Town’s trees shed their leaves in a generally cooperative way this year and our contractor has successfully, despite intervening rain, removed them. The Brookeville Academy’s elevator passed a State inspection and new fire extinguishers are in place in the building.
