December 8, 2008 Commissioners Meeting Minutes

December 8, 2008
8:00 p.m.

Commissioner President Michael Acierno, Commissioner Robert Heritage, Commissioner Katherine Farquhar, Town Clerk Cate McDonald, Academy Manager Andrea Scanlon, Treasurer Susan Johnson. Present during all or portions of the meeting was Gazette Reporter Terri Hogan

Minutes: The November 2008 Commissioners Meeting Minutes were approved.

Financial:  The November financial report was reviewed.

Academy Update:

  • 2 rentals on the books for 2009
  • Interior painting was completed and on budget at $7716.
  • Propane:  Suburban will be picking up their propane tank and Amerigas has been contracted to install their tank and supply the Academy with propane.  Amerigas charges less per gallon; swap out of above ground propane tanks will cost $150.  The cost of buying and installing an underground propane tank is costly.

Brookeville Schoolhouse:  A pest control company will come out Dec 9th to inspect the Schoolhouse for general pest control

Speaker:  Mike Whitcomb, Energy Manager for Montgomery College, has been engaged for a presentation on Solar Energy Feb. 2, 2008 at 7:30pm at the Brookeville Academy.  All town residents will be invited.

Verizon:  Water St. was missed when Verizon FIOS was installed in the Town.  Clerk will contact Montgomery County liaison about installing FIOS along Water St.

309 & 311 Market:  owner of properties appeared before the court on Nov 25th.   Owner was given 90 days to get properties up to code.  Next court date on this matter is scheduled for March 2, 2009.

Holiday Party Evaluation:  All agreed that the Holiday Party Dec 6th was a success.  There was a request for residents to wear name tags next year.

Snow Removal:  Todd Greenstone was contracted to provide snow removal along North, South, Church and Water Streets at a slight increase over last years rates.

Gravel Road Maintenance:  Neal Leary was contracted for maintenance of the Town’s gravel roads.

Tree report:  Arborist sent in her evaluation of the Town’s trees.  Estimates and permitting process for removal will start on those trees noted. The tree stump where the Brookeville Angel is sitting upon is rotting with evidence of carpenter ants.  Town Commissioners will try and decide what needs to become of the Angel.

SHA:  report has been signed and mailed.

MML Dinner:  Michael Acierno and Katherine Farquhar represented Brookeville at the MML Montgomery County Chapter Annual Dinner.  Both reported that attending the dinner afforded ample opportunity to network with state and local officials regarding the Bypass.

GOCA: a GOCA representative contacted Michael Acierno with questions regarding the status of the Brookeville Bypass.  GOCA has heard there is a lawsuit being filed against the Bypass with SHA.
